JAMES H. AITKEN (Lighting Designer) is in his first season with The Shakespeare
Theatre of New Jersey. Design credits include TWELFTH NIGHT at San José Repertory
Theatre; A CHRISTMAS CAROL at Geva Theatre; END OF THE ROPE at La MaMa E.T.C.,
EL PASO BLUES for Venture Theatre; KEEN, ROMEO AND JULIET, TWO GENTLEMAN OF VERONA,
THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, THE FOREST and AS YOU LIKE IT
at Shakespeare Santa Cruz. He is the resident designer for Festival Opera in Walnut
Creek, California. Other: THE ORESTEIA, STREET SCENE, ROUGH FOR THEATRE, ALL POWERS
NECESSARY AND CONVENIENT, A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY and HAMLET, all for the University
of Washington School of Drama. He is the principal designer for Invisible Circus
LLC, an architectural and entertainment design firm based in New York. Invisible
Circus' recent projects include Nordstrom retail stores and the Faconnable Boutique
in Rockefeller Center. Upcoming lighting design projects include AIDA with Festival
Opera and THE MYSTERY OF CHING SOO LEE at Strathmore College. Mr. Aitken received
his M.F.A. in lighting design from the University of Washington. He dedicates
this production to his fiancée Jude Domski.
