ANDY TEIRSTEIN (Composer) is in his first season with the Festival. As a writer,
composer, and performer, he has written scores for numerous choreographers, for
theater and film. He studied music composition with Leonard Bernstein and Stephen
Sondheim, and fiction writing with Bernard Malamud. His awards include grants
from the N.E.A. Opera/Musical Theater Program, Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust,
Meet the Composer, a Richard Rodgers Development Award, a New York Foundation
for the Arts Fellowship, and numerous ASCAP awards. His CD Mannahatta was featured
on W.N.Y.C.'s NEW SOUNDS program this year. Teirstein has written scores for several
P.B.S. and B.B.C. films, was an original cast member of the Broadway musical hit,
BARNUM, and has appeared on SEARCH FOR TOMORROW and in the film SOPHIE'S CHOICE.
He currently teaches music in the dance department at New York University's Tisch
School of the Arts.
