GABRIEL BARRE (Director) was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award and a Drama Desk Award and won the Calloway Award for his direction of THE WILD PARTY by Andrew Lippa at the Manhattan Theatre Club. His other off-Broadway credits include SUMMER OF '42 at the Variety Arts Theatre, HONKY TONK HIGHWAY at Don't Tell Mama (which was awarded three Bistro Awards including Best Direction and the MAC Award for Best Revue), JOHN & JEN at the Lambs Theatre, and STARS IN YOUR EYES at the Cherry Lane Theatre. Also in New York he did the musical staging, and also performed in, the 25th Anniversary production of JACQUES BREL at the Village Gate, which he also directed and choreographed at Syracuse Stage. He directed the national tour of Rodger and Hammerstein's CINDERELLA, soon going into its third year, and the musical about Tammy Wynett, STAND BY YOUR MAN, returning to Nashville's Ryman Auditorium for a second run this fall. At the Goodspeed Opera House he directed the revivals of SWEENEY TODD (winner of four Connecticut Critics Circle Awards, including Best Direction), FINIAN'S RAINBOW as well as the new musicals FANNY HILL, DORIAN and HOUDINI, which he also remounted at the Marriott-Lincolnshire Theatre in Chicago. As an actor he has been nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical and has appeared often on Broadway and off, and in T.V. and film. He is currently directing a new version of Gilbert and Sullivan's THE GONDOLIERS at the Roundabout Theatre, a revival of THE KING OF HEARTS at Goodspeed and a new Frank Wildhorn, Nan Knighton musical, CAMILLE CLAUDEL, due on Broadway next season. As an actor, Gabe appeared here at N.J.S.F. as the title role in CYRANO DE BERGERAC opposite Tricia Paoluccio to whom he was married a year later.
