The
19th Biennial Shakespeare Colloquium
September
30 and October 1, 2006
Richard
III: Fact and Fiction
Registration
extended through Sept. 29!
Get to know the House of York's "bad seed" up-close
and personal, as we examine the difference between the historical
King Richard III and the artistic creation that is Shakespeare's
dysfunctional "Dickie."
Through
lectures by distinguished guest speakers, panels and performances,
this popular program enables Shakespeare enthusiasts, history
buffs, scholars, educators and theatre professionals to gather
for an invigorating weekend of discussion and debate. Presented
in conjunction with our Main Stage production of Richard
III, this Shakespeare Colloquium focuses on a man who
is considered one of the most malignant— and perhaps
the most maligned— of British monarchs.
We
will examine not only Richard III and Shakespeare's proclivity
for "tweaking" history, but also how this practice
has manifested itself in numerous other great works of literature.
On the flip side, we'll discuss how history, or the lack thereof,
has been enhanced by the fictional imaginings of the world's
authors and artists.
